Description
Invitation to a walk through fairy tale spooky looking woods.
Polylepis trees, also called paper trees, are endemic to the mid- and high-elevation regions of the Andes. The altitudinal range of these forest goes from 1800 m.a.s.l. in Córdoba, Argentina, to 5200 m.s.n.m. at the Sajama volcano, in Bolivia. Those pictures were taken in Ecuador at 4070 m a.s.l. The genus can adapt well to cold mountain climates due to its reduced flowers, hairy leaves, and exfoliating bark on the trunks.
