Tungurahua, from Quichua tunguri (throat), rahua (fire): "Throat of Fire", also known as the "The Black Giant" is an active stratovolcano located in the Cordillera Oriental of Ecuador rising 5023 meters above sea level. It is one of the most active volcanoes in Ecuador. It rises above the small thermal springs town of BaƱos de Agua Santa (1,800 m) which is located at its foot 8 km to the north and is located about 140 km south of the capital city of Quito.
This volcano towers 3 km above its northern base and has a 600 ft. (183 m) wide crater. The volcano has a diameter of 14 km. Tungurahua volcano has a complex historical record which includes sudden, violent eruptions. Volcanic activity restarted in 1999. Its causes many tremors in the nearby city of Banos.
I'm a Belgian based in Ecuador since 1992. My passion for photography comes from my love of the outdoors, nature, the mountains, the sea. I want to encapsulate some magical moments and share some of the most extraordinary places on earth with all those who are sensitive to the beauty of this wonderful nature. I try to capture the poetry, the drama or the force of nature in the colors, in the details, in the shapes. My goal is to share beauty and emotions.
