Cotopaxi, 5897 m, one of the highest active volcano in the world. Historically its activity started in 1534 when the Spanish conquistadors began to venture into the territories that are now Ecuador. Cotopaxi Volcano is 13,000 years old and is the central feature of the Cotopaxi National Park (33 393 ha).
Alexander Von Humboldt, in 1802, said: "the shape of Cotopaxi is the most beautiful and regular of all the colossal peaks in the Andes.
This is not a classic view of the volcano. It's indeed the west face of the Cotopaxi. The location was chosen with the intention of photographing the full moon hanging over the crater. Unfortunately the clouds did not allow it. The brightest star next to Cotopaxi is Antares and the three stars above are part of Scorpius.
I'm a Belgian based in Ecuador since 1992. My passion for photography comes from my love of the outdoors, nature, the mountains, the sea. I want to encapsulate some magical moments and share some of the most extraordinary places on earth with all those who are sensitive to the beauty of this wonderful nature. I try to capture the poetry, the drama or the force of nature in the colors, in the details, in the shapes. My goal is to share beauty and emotions.
