A terrapin Arrau turtle is resting and sunbathing on a log which is not covered by the water of the river. The animal has the head outside the shell. There are beautiful reflections of the sunlight in the water.
The Arrau turtle, also known as the South American river turtle, giant South American turtle, giant Amazon River turtle, Arrau sideneck turtle or simply the Arrau, is the largest of the side-neck turtles and the largest freshwater turtle in Latin America.

I'm a Belgian based in Ecuador since 1992. My passion for photography comes from my love of the outdoors, nature, the mountains, the sea.
